Since Taylor Swift broke her political silence in 2018, tensions have been simmering between the pop icon and former U.S. President Donald Trump. What started as a subtle clash of opinions quickly became a public rivalry, with both sides making their voices heard loud and clear over the years.
During the 2024 presidential race, tensions between Taylor Swift and Donald Trump escalated further. After Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris following her first debate with Trump, the former president quickly responded on social media, warning that her music sales would “suffer” because of her endorsement. That prediction, however, didn’t come true, as Swift’s popularity and music sales remained strong. This exchange followed a previous incident in which Swift criticized Trump for sharing a doctored image falsely suggesting she supported him.
The long-running feud between Taylor Swift and Donald Trump has continued in recent days, with the former president aiming at her on social media. Most recently, he shifted his attention to movie star Sydney Sweeney, praising her after she faced criticism for highlighting her “great genes” in an American Eagle ad campaign. Trump tweeted, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there.”
He then compared Sweeney to Swift, writing, “Just look at ‘woke’ singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I said on Truth Social that I can’t stand her, she was booed at the Super Bowl and is no longer ‘hot.’ The tide has seriously turned — being woke is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Pop superstar Taylor Swift announced she is engaged to her partner, Travis Kelce, on Tuesday via Instagram post with a caption reading, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” sharing photos showing Kansas City Chiefs star Kelce proposing to Swift.
The post gained over 18 million likes in just four hours. The couple received congratulations from several celebrities, including former U.S. President Donald Trump.
Trump was informed about Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement during a cabinet meeting. Responding to the news, he said,
“I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”
