Gigi Hadid Reveals She Auditioned to Play Rapunzel in Disney’s Live-Action Tangled

Disney’s recent live-action films have featured stars such as Angelina Jolie, Emma Stone, Emma Watson, and Beyoncé. Now, supermodel Gigi Hadid revealed she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in a planned live-action adaptation of “Tangled.”

Disney’s live-action adaptations have brought some of Hollywood’s biggest names to the screen, with stars like Angelina Jolie (Maleficent), Emma Stone (Cruella), Emma Watson (Beauty and the Beast), and even Beyoncé attached to upcoming projects. Now, supermodel Gigi Hadid has revealed that she auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in Disney’s planned live-action remake of Tangled.

In a recent interview with Vogue, supermodel Gigi Hadid revealed that she once auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled.

“What do we do in this job anymore that actually scares us?” Hadid asked her longtime friend and Vogue cover co-star, Kendall Jenner. She went on to explain that this was the reason she pushed herself to audition for the role.

“I was really proud of my scene. The singing… I knew they were going to go with a real singer, but I’ll show you my audition scene later.” Hadid told Kendal.

Gigi Hadid began her modeling career at a very young age, first posing for Baby Guess. She made her official New York Fashion Week debut in 2014, and since then has walked the runway for some of the world’s top fashion houses while gracing the covers of countless fashion magazines. Her success quickly made her one of the most recognizable faces in the industry, earning her a spot on Forbes’ list of the highest-paid models in 2018.

Now 29, Hadid has mostly stayed in the fashion world, only appearing on screen as herself in projects like Ocean’s 8 and several reality TV shows. Hadid said she was really proud of the scene she performed during her Rapunzel audition.

The live-action Tangled movie was first announced in December 2024, with filmmaker Michael Gracey reportedly in talks to direct from a script by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. However, after Disney’s Snow White remake starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot struggled at the box office, the studio decided to pause production on the project.
