Sydney Sweeney Refuses to Discuss Controversial American Eagle Campaign at TIFF Premiere

Sydney Sweeney has been one of the most talked-about stars on the internet in recent weeks. The Euphoria actress is now set to make her first major public appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where she is promoting her upcoming movie Christy. This is her first major public appearance since her new American Eagle campaign sparked controversy and set social media buzzing.

So far, Sweeney has stayed quiet about the divisive American Eagle ads. In a recent chat with Vanity Fair, she made it clear that she has no plans to talk about her controversial American Eagle ad campaign at TIFF. Instead, the actress wants the spotlight on her new film, Christy Martin, not on what the internet has dubbed the “jeans controversy.”

Sydney Sweeney will attend the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5. She is premiering Christy, her new film about boxer Christy Martin.

The film tells the story of legendary 90s boxer Christy Martin, with Sweeney taking on the lead role in what many see as one of her most transformative performances yet.

Speaking about Christy Martin, Sweeney said, “I was blown away that her story wasn’t more known on a global level because she is one of the most harrowing and inspiring women I’ve ever met in my life.”

Without a doubt, this would be Sweeney’s career-best performance. To step into the role, she underwent an incredible physical transformation, gaining between 30 and 35 pounds of muscle. Sweeney isn’t a stranger to combat sports. As a teenager, she trained in jiu-jitsu, grappling, and even a bit of kickboxing. Sweeney revealed that she has always been drawn to physically demanding roles.

“I felt very strong and powerful,” she says. “I loved it. Being able to lose myself to become a vessel for somebody else is my dream.”

Sweeney wanted to make Christy Martin’s fight scenes feel more realistic realistic as possible.

“Every single fight you see, we are actually punching each other. We are going full force,” she says. “I always believed that you would not be able to make it feel real if it’s a stunt double or if it’s faking the hits.”

American Eagle also spoke about their recent campaign with Sydney Sweeney, featuring the slogan “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” The company revealed that Sweeney’s jeans collaboration sold out within a week, with some items selling out within one day. The campaign even caught the attention of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who publicly praised Sweeney for the ad.

“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying [off] the shelves.’ Go get ’em, Sydney.”

Christy is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 5.
